Our Impact

TACL is dedicated to addressing the health inequities and racial disparities that make it more difficult for Louisianans to access high-quality cancer care.

See how we’ve worked with our partners to expand access to prevention, early detection, and standard of care treatment in Louisiana.

Medicaid Expansion

Expanding Medicaid in Louisiana gave access to preventative healthcare to more residents. And since our founding in 2018, we’ve remained focused on opportunities to further expand that access and improve outcomes for Louisianans.

Data as of December 4, 2023 shows that through expanded efforts:

  • 105,425 adults received colon cancer screening.
  • 32,135 adults had colon polyps removed and colon cancers averted.
  • 1,425 adults were diagnosed with colon cancer as a result of this screening.

These efforts combined to save patients and their loved ones pain, heartache, and potential loss of life.

Partner Spotlight

We ask our partners to commit to making breast cancer and colorectal cancer screening a priority within their organizations. See how Turner Industries approached this challenge to achieve impressive results.

Our large business partner, Turner Industries, created a strategic plan to get their company’s screening rates even with the national average in three years. Prior to creating a plan and sharing it company-wide, they had been struggling to increase their rates. But within just one year of developing and sharing their plan, they’d almost reached their goal.

Screening20202021
Breast Cancer38.1%53% (National Benchmark 56%)
Colorectal Cancer52.1%64% (National Benchmark 68%)

That’s a 39.1% increase in breast cancer screening rates and a 22.8% increase in overall colorectal cancer screening rates from 2020 to 2021 alone!
